ECCAS Cell Phone Policy
The Charleston County School District (CCSD) and the Board of Trustees have developed cell phone and electronic device procedures for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year to create a device-free school environment that fosters student learning, engagement, and meaningful interactions.
All Personal Electronic Devices: Turned off and securely stored during the school day.
- Cell phones and personal electronic devices, including laptops, iPads, smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, etc. may NOT be used during the school day.
- These items should not be visible or heard at any time.
Daily Procedures: 8:31 AM - 3:34 PM
- Phones will be turned off and stored in student backpacks or bags, not on their person.
- Headphones, earbuds, and Bluetooth devices must be removed and stored away.
- CCSD-issued Chromebooks are permitted, and CCSD email is encouraged for communication if needed.
- If there is an emergency, please call the ECCAS front office at 843-856-5800. Students will not be pulled from class for general messages.
Limited Use Exceptions: Personal electronic devices may only be used:
- When required under an individualized Education Program (IEP), medical plan, or Section 504 plan.
- With the explicit permission of the faculty/staff member present and only as part of approved classroom instruction.
Consequences: During Instructional Time
If cell phones or personal electronic devices are found in use during the school day, they will be confiscated.
- First Offense: The student will pick up the cell phone or personal electronic device from the tacher, following the teacher's procedure, at the end of the class. The student will receive an Office Managed referral for 330: Phone Violation and the student's parents will be notified.
- Second Offense: The student will pick up the cell phone or personal electronic device from the ECCAS front office by 3:45 PM. The student will receive an Office Managed referral for 330: Phone Violation and the student's parents will be notified.
- Third Offense: The parent will pick up the cell phone or personal electronic device from the ECCAS front office by 3:45 PM. The student will receive an Office Managed referral for 330: Phone Violation and the student's parents will be notified.
- Forth Offense: The parent will pick up the cell phone or personal electronic device from the ECCAS administrator during a scheduled conference. The student will receive an Office Managed referral for 330: Phone Violation and the student will be placed on School Probation.
Note: If a student refuses to give up the device or follow staff directives, the student will be referred for an Office Managed referral code 270: Refusal to Obey.
