About Your Teacher Librarian

My name is Missy Beyel, and I am your Teacher Librarian. I am delighted to be working with you and look forward to helping you achieve your learning goals!

I graduated from Clemson with a bachelor's in Early Childhood Education, and later got my master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina. I am my own house divided! I moved back to Charleston after living in New York for several years, where I was the librarian for a small school district. I established separate Library programs for each school and created and maintained dedicated makerspaces for each library. I am a huge proponent of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education, and am so excited to share that we will have a dedicated "Fab Lab" makerspace area in the CAS library as well! Please come in and check it out - we have a lot of really neat things to offer you, whatever your hobbies and interests may be.
I live with my wonderful husband, my two amazing children, and our two dogs. I enjoy tennis, running, gardening, cooking, and of course, reading! My favorite genres are dystopian and mystery, but I read them all.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote STEAM by offering a variety of unique resources which patrons may utilize to become more aware and informed, acquire and share skills and passions with others, and make our world a better place for all to navigate through and thrive in. We promote the love of reading for both enjoyable and informational purposes and teach all learners how to access and use information and media more ethically and efficiently.

"The library space is a learning community where all are welcome. It is a place to acquire knowledge and collaborate, learn lifelong information-seeking and technology skills, and become inspired to do great things."
